What is FTTH?
FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) is the next-generation broadband network that can deliver telephone, high-bandwidth internet, and TV services at speeds faster than what is provided by conventional coaxial cable or phone lines (DSL).
Who is responsible for this project?
GTC Broadband owns, operates, and maintains the project.
When will the construction occur?
Ongoing.
What hours will the construction crew be working?
Construction work will take place on weekdays anytime from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. No work will be scheduled on major holidays or weekends.
How will I be affected by this construction?
Much of the construction will take place in right of ways, but in some cases it will also involve work on your personal property. This may require trenching, plowing or boring of portions of lawn or landscape, irrigation system, sidewalks and driveway areas. GTC Broadband will fully restore the areas to their original condition within a determined period of time.
Who can I contact if I experience problems during the construction phase?
You may contact Granby Telephone Company (GTC Broadband) at (417) 472-6211 or (417) 325-6211 during normal business hours to discuss any construction-related problems or concerns that may arise. Fred Ellison will be supervising the construction progress and Kevin Johnson will be managing the project.
What are the FTTH requirements for the customer? At each home the protectors (the gray box outside your home) will be replaced with a FTTH ONT (optical network terminal) that “Talks” to the fiber. Each ONT requires power and will be connected to your power provider (Empire or New-Mac). Calix, the manufacturer of this product, has tested and measured power consumption for fiber ONT’s mounted to homes and businesses for the purpose of terminating telecommunications service over the fiber networks. The power consumption for Calix’s 716 ONT’s is a nominal 8-11 Watts, with a peak power consumption of 13 Watts. Based on a typical power residential New-Mac rate of $0.0805/kWhr, the estimated incremental power cost for the ONT equipment is estimated to be between $.4638 - $.75348 per month. For the residential Empire rate of $0.0895 / kWhr, the estimated incremental power cost is anticipated to be between $0.51552 - $0.83772 per month. Actual power consumption is not guaranteed and will vary depending on the ONT model, general manufacturing variances, and services utilized. Even though this power requirement is nominal, we are notifying all our customers in advance of this new provision.
